to be involved with some very exciting projects

Stakeholder analysis and Roadmap - Swedish market for new nuclear power
The Swedish government wish to see 2500 MW new nuclear power n operation by 2025. This means a new market is opening up on Denmark's door step for new nuclear power technology and the supply chain that supports it. Copenhagen Atomics has a unique value proposition, and wanted to know more about the specific policy targets, regulatory framework and key stakeholders in the Swedish market.

Stakeholder engagement; strategic outreach, event planning and project management
Strategic outreach, stakeholder engagement, project management

I have the privilege of working closely with the Danish energy company Ørsted on a number of strategic projects related to stakeholder engagement. Together with the Ørsted Defense & Security team I assist with strategic advice, outreach and project management in connection with the development and planning of various events.
I am thrilled to support the objective furthering the coexistence between stakeholders in the Nordic region, and promote windpower as a significant part of a secure and reliable energy mix.

Responsible Steel - stakeholder event
Strategic advisory and outreach

For the SteelZero launch summit in Copenhagen in May 2022, I was working with the Climate Group on engaging key Nordic stakeholders within climate action and industry decarbonisation to ensure high level content and presence at the event.
An amazing high level event, resulting in commitment by a substantial number of market leaders to drive the demand for fossil free steel through out the sectors.

Capturing the moment and creating narratives
Strategic partnership

I have enjoyed a fruitful collaboration and ongoing creative inspiration with Helle Retbøll Carl of Community Content for years. Now we are intent on working together on defining and communicating the core narrative defining energy sector companies that drive the green transition in the Nordic region. I very much look forward to engaging in PR and communications projects with Helle and her amazing team.

High level energy sector conference
Concept development, stakeholder engagement and project management

Since 2016 I have worked with the DK UK Association (the Danish UK Chamber of Commerce) on developing and executing high level energy sector events, bringing together British and primarily Danish energy stakeholders to discuss market developments, make introductions and support the exploration of business opportunities in the UK market.

In 2023 we focus on Decarbonising the Industrial Value Chain. This event goes across the entire value chain - covering scope 1, 2 and 3 - and brings together key industrial players as well as market influencers and decision makers to address both opportunities and challenges in a tricky and uncertain market environment.
It was indeed a great event. Please see videos from the day and testimonials from happy partners and delegates here:

Decarbonising the Industrial Value Chain - The Danish-UK Association (dkuk.org)

” When it comes to formulating a clear vision, analysing interests and mapping a stakeholder landscape within the realm of green energy transition and Net Zero pursuits, and identifying relevant stakeholders to engage and cross pollinate with, then steering is important.
Karen Marie Sandgren did just that, as Steering Committee Chair, of the “Decarbonising the Industrial Value Chain” stakeholder conference the Danish-UK business community rallied around - with their respective supply chain stakeholders - to discuss under the umbrella of the Danish-UK Association. With her vast experience as advisor on strategic outreach and stakeholder engagement in a complex international landscape of varied interests she brought a level of expertise that helped to sharpen the narrative, matching the level of leadership enabling an engagement that set off this stakeholder event on a good path from the start.
This was the 3rd time she has taken on this role as active member of the Danish-UK Association, first time in 2016, second time 2018, and then 6th June 2023. Having an active membership is vital for any community gives a position of increased strength and outreach for all involved, and I am pleased and honoured Karen Marie is one such member.
If you need to strengthen your business‘ or industry’s collaborative advantage in this space – you need to connect with Karen Marie Sandgren and her company Nordic Energy Connections.”

Gunnar P. Larsen, Managing Director DK UK Association
”The conference was a success by all key parameters; speakers, number and level of participants, programme planning and execution, communication. Karen marie paid much attention to building and managing a high level of expectations among partners and participants – and delivering on it through her strong experience ad project manager, conference organizer and with a very useful insight in the field of energy. We hope and look forward to working with Karen Marie again in the future.”

Case study and in class lecture on Green Transition
Case Study and lecture on Green Transition in Scandinavia

In collaboration with Georgetown University's Earth Commons Institute for Sustainability and institute leader Maria Petrova I have done a case study on the green transition in Denmark, Norway and Sweden from the 1970s untill today. The case study explores the differences in drivers, motivation and challenges betweeh the three neighbouring countries, while also explaining the commitment to transitioning away from fossil fuels and reinventing a future proog energy system.
The case study was introduced to students in January 2023, and will be discussed in an upcoming lecture and work shop at Georgetown University.
